Earth, Wind, and Fire
Blending rhythm and blues,
jazz, and funk, this group
took the best of each genre
and created a unique sound
that still defines the 70's
dance sound for me.
The selection of music for
parties is always an
important task and we
never failed to select the live version, not the studio
version (!), of their classic
song Reasons. The live
version, heard on the
Gratitude album, is about
twice as long as the studio
version.
Just before the last dance,
someone would find this
track on the album, then
announce the last dance
was about to start. We
eagerly sought out our
partners knowing it would be a long and intimate
encounter. Ah, young love!
The requiebros is Philip
Bailey's falsetto as he calls
and answers with a
melodic
alto sax. The duo
take the song out on an
incredibly high note,
literally wrapping the
listener in a wave of sound.
